SIUC Police Say No Evidence of Campus Shooting

UPDATE:  SIUC Spokesperson Rae Goldsmith says the campus is clear and there is no concern of threats on campus.

Goldsmith says the university received a report of a shooting at a student oriented event at Lawson Hall Friday evening.  Police issues a campus alert about 9:16 pm. SIU Police  Sgt. Chad Beights says the call came in a little before 9:00 pm. Goldsmith says police found no evidence of a shooting but officers did find blood in a hallway that indicated there had been a fight. She says there were no shell casing found or evidence of gunfire. Goldsmith says right now there is no evidence that anyone was injured. She says police are continuing to investigate.

SIU Department of Public Safety is still on scene at Lawson Hall.  Police say area is secure.  Rest of campus is open.  Earlier police reported that there was no confirmation of any shots fired.

SIU Department of Public Safety is investigating report of possible armed gunman and possible shots fired on Carbondale campus.

Police issued an alert about 9:15 pm Friday.  Police called for an immediate evacuation of the area.  As of last update at 9:45 pm  police say they are unable to confirm that shots were fired.  Police are continuing to investigate the situation.
