SIU leaders say they're looking into allegations of racism on the Carbondale campus, and urging students to uphold the school's "community values."

In a letter to the campus community this week, SIUC Interim Chancellor Brad Colwell says respect for individuals, diversity, and inclusion are critical to the university.

The letter to students comes after a Facebook post alleging racial slurs, comments, and other issues in residence halls.

Colwell says students need to remember they are accountable for their actions, as well as those of their guests. He says anyone who feels threatened should contact campus police - and called on the campus community to make SIU welcoming to all who study there.
