SIU Issues Safety Alert

SIU Police are asking people to be on the lookout after a robbery on campus early Sunday morning.

University officials say the victim, an 18-year old SIU student, told police he was walking home across the parking lot north of the Recreation Center after 3:00 Sunday morning when he was approached by six people.

The victim was ordered to throw his wallet on the ground and stay there. He told police the suspects took the wallet and ran away toward Mill Street. The victim as not hurt.

The suspects are all described as African American. Two were reportedly wearing hooded sweatshirts, and black sweatpants. Two others wore white t-shirts and dark shorts, and the remaining two wore black long-sleeve shirts with dark pants. All six suspects were reportedly wearing bandanas.
