The State of Illinois owes Southern Illinois Healthcare over $50 million in overdue bills because of the budget impasse.
CEO Rex Budde says the State owes SIH about $39 million for the care of state workers, retirees and dependents and another $13 million in Medicaid bills.
Budde says SIH is not considering cutting services right now. But, he says changes will have to be made if the standoff extends indefinitely.
"If it continues to go on, at some point and time we will have to look at that. But, I don't have on June 1st, we're going to do this or do that kind of scenario. Our cash flow in other areas have been pretty good. We work really, really hard at that. It's helped us kind of weather the storm from the state."
Budde says SIH is able to continue normal operations because its large enough to withstand the shortfall. The system oversees operations at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Herrin Hospital and St. Joseph's Memorial in Murphysboro.
In a written statement, an official with Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion says that facility will continue to provide care to state employees until a resolution is reached.
