Rend Lake Free Firewood Program Runs Through March 2018.

Officials at Rend Lake are once again giving the public the chance to get free firewood.  Jordan Haggerty, with the Army Corps of Engineers says the severe storms from this past spring, coupled with the devastation done to trees from the Emerald Ash Borer has created a lot of dead trees.  And this year, starting November 20th and running through March 2nd, of 2018  individuals can get a free permit to get the wood in the North Sandusky Campground.  Haggerty says because of state and federal rules, the wood, especially the Ash, has to stay in the state.  The Corps of Engineers will be cutting much of the wood, and placing it at convenient areas near the road for easy pickup.  This special program is for private users; no commercial use or resale is allowed.

The hours during which you can collect wood is between 8:00AM and 3:30PM, Monday through Friday.

If you have any questions you can call the Rend Lake Project Office at 618–724–2493.
