Region Weathers Storms

National Weather Service (Paducah, KY)

Investigators from the National Weather Service will be in parts of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and western Kentucky Friday.

The visits come after severe weather swept across the region Thursday afternoon and evening, leaving damage in some areas and flooding in most.

There are reports of power poles blown over, with lines down in some areas of Jackson and Williamson County, as well as fallen trees and some other damage.

Tornado and thunderstorm warnings moved across the quad-state region on Thursday as a fast moving system spawned high winds, hail, and heavy rains.

No injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service in Paducah, KY says strong to severe storms are possible from midday through the afternoon across portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southwest Indiana.

Strong winds, heavy rain, and a small chance of isolated tornadoes are associated with the threat. Forecasters say the highest risk of severe weather covers portions of Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as northern portions of Alabama and Mississippi.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the WSIU area through 8:00pm Thursday. Forecasters say winds from the southwest will blow 25-35 mph, gusting 45-50 mph at times.
