Salem Police are warning area residents to be careful when paying at the pump at area gas stations.  Police say credit card skimmers have been successfully used in the area.

Police say most recently skimmers have been placed inside of the pump using a master key to gain access.

Police say all Salem area gas stations and convenience stores have been asked to place security seals over the seam of the pump where the credit card reader is accessed.

If the tape is cut or tampered with do not use that pump and notify an employee of the facility.  Police say if you see “VOID” on the tape, it has been tampered with.

Police encourage area gas station customers to monitor their account data regularly for unauthorized charges.
