Pet Safety Bill Fails

The Illinois Senate voted down a bill banning pets from riding in the driver's seat.
The legislation created a $25  fine for driver's caught with their dog or cat in their lap.  The idea is that having a pet in your lap while driving is distracting for you and dangerous for them. But Senator Dale Righter of Mattoon says they shouldn't be spending time legislating common sense.    The measure failed on a vote of 27 to 21.
