Next Community Cinema Film Screening is April 28

Carbondale, Ill.WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), and the Carbondale Public Library will host the fourth of five Community Cinema film screenings on Saturday, April 28 at 2:30pm at the library, 405 West Main in Carbondale. The event is free and open to the public.

Saturday's scheduled film isHell and Back Again, which explores the long-term physical and psychological impact of war on returning soldiers. Wounded in battle in Afghanistan, 25-year-old U.S. Marine Sergeant Nathan Harris returns to North Carolina and his young wife to fight pain, addiction, and the terrifying normalcy of life at home.

Roxanne Carson, the Marion VA's Nurse Case Manager for veterans of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn, will lead a discussion after the film.

Community Cinemais a public education initiative featuring free monthly films from the PBS series Independent Lens. The project was created to bring communities together to learn about, discuss, and get involved in the key social issues of our time. Carbondale is one of more than 95 cities nationwide participating in Community Cinema.

The final Community Cinema film, Strong!, will be screened on May 26.
