New ROE 21 Superintendent Named

People
Brad Palmer, WSIU Radio
New ROE 21 Supt. Lorie LeQuatte and outgoing ROE 21 Supt. Matt Donkin on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

There is a new Regional Superintendent of Schools for Williamson, Franklin, Johnson and Massac counties.

The four county chairmen Thursday unanimously approved Lorie LeQuatte to replace Matt Donkin, who is the new District Superintendent in West Frankfort.
LeQuatte has been the Principal at Project Echo and Star Quest Academy in Johnston City for the past decade.

She says taking over in the midst of a budget crisis in Illinois is obviously not ideal because the hardship is being placed on the backs of the children and their teachers.

"We have teachers in these districts who are taking on more and more responsibility, more and more time and they're not being compensated for it."

LeQuatte says she anticipates a smooth transition because she has had students from the four counties served by the regional office in her current position at Project Echo.

The Zeigler native will take over the regional office on July 1st.
