Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says he's running for re-election.
The 83-year-old Democrat has overwhelmingly won the office five times.
He had said that this would be his final term in the office that regulates drivers' licenses. It's a vow he's made several times in the past.
But Thursday - speaking before a room of Democrats in Springfield - White dragged out his announcement.
"And I've come to the conclusion that yes, in 2018."
White is considered a safe bet for Democrats in next year's heated midterm elections.
He won in 2014 with nearly two-thirds of the vote.
The Republican Party has not officially announced a candidate for Secretary of State.
