SIU President Randy Dunn's choice for interim Chancellor on the Carbondale campus could come within days.
Dunn says he's getting closer to naming a leader for SIUC, which has been without a Chancellor since Paul Sarvela died unexpectedly last fall.

After serving since that time as both system President and Carbondale CEO, Dunn says he's almost ready to make a choice.
"I really hope, within the next week or so, to have someone named on a tentative appointment basis - using authority I have, with final action being taken at the next Board meeting September tenth."
Dunn says the leader, who will serve for two years while the university searches for a campus CEO in both Edwardsville and Carbondale, needs to have certain qualifications.
"There is support for finding someone who has at least some fairly recent connection to the campus, who has had a position of significance in administrative leadership that would put them in line for an interim chancellorship."
In this week's WSIU InFocus, Dunn says both retired and current administrators could be considered, but says there are others who could qualify, as well.
At its summer meeting, the SIU Board of Trustees directed Dunn to name an interim Chancellor who would serve two years on the Carbondale campus.
Earlier this month, Dunn appointed Stephen Hansen the interim Chancellor at SIU Edwardsville. Hansen will fill the post left vacant when Julie Furst-Bowe left for another job in Wisconsin.
