Illinois Lawmakers Hear About Benefits of Recreational Marijuana

Images

Illinois lawmakers heard testimony Tuesday on the economic benefits of legalizing recreational marijuana.

Supporters says legalizing pot would raise hundreds of millions of dollars in much needed tax revenue for the state.
Adam Orens is with the marijuana policy group in Denver and says Colorado expects to see more than one point five billion dollars in sales this year.

Supporters hope to pass a legalization bill next year. Opponents argue this would lead to more people doing harder drugs.

Illinois is two years into its four-year medical marijuana pilot project.
