Henry to Stay on City Election Ballot

A Carbondale businessman will be allowed to remain on the ballot for Mayor.

The three member Carbondale Electoral Board voted unanimously Monday afternoon that local businessman Mike Henry is eligible to remain on the ballot for the upcoming municipal election in April.  He will face Carbondale City Councilwoman Jane Adams in the race for Mayor.

Attorney Darrell Dunham and SIU faculty member Andrew Balkansky filed the challenge.  They claimed Henry did not live within the city's limits for the required one-year time period.  After the ruling, Dunham said he would wait to get a written response from the city attorney before deciding whether to appeal the decision.

In a written statement, Mayoral candidate Jane Adams says the decision will lay to rest any rumors concerning his residence in Carbondale.  Adams says Carbondale voters need a choice and she looks forward to this campaign for Mayor.
