At precisely 12:00PM today, Thursday October 22nd, 2015, Illinois school-children in more than 50 school districts will bite into a locally grown apple in celebration of the Great Apple Crunch, an event designed to highlight the abundance of locally-grown fruit in Illinois, and to promote healthy eating habits.
This educational event is organized by the Illinois Farm to School Network, Seven Generations Ahead, Agriculture in the Classroom and the Illinois Farm Bureau. In this interview WSIU radio talks with Lydia Mills, with the sustainable-eating group Seven Generations Ahead, and we also hear from Ulli Tragoudas who is the Food Service Director at Unity Point School in Carbondale, one of the schools participating in the state-wide event.
