Fraternal Order of Police Endorses Brady for Governor

By AP

Chicago, IL – Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady has picked up an endorsement from the state's largest police union.

Representatives of the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police announced their backing Tuesday. They cite Brady's vision for a balanced state budget and his understanding of law enforcement.

Brady has promised to cut 10 percent from the state's budget. He says the union understands that these are troubled economic times and that they want to be part of the solution.

Union president Ted Street says the FOP has to be part of the discussion and he doesn't think the cuts will be drastic.

The union has about 33,500 members...including several thousand Illinois State Police officers.
