Maryville Police

A federal grand jury has indicted an Ohio man on sex related charges involving a juvenile. The US Attorney's Office says a grand jury has charged 36-year old Nathan Maphis of New Boston, Ohio with 'travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.'    The charges accuse Mahpis of driving from Ohio to Effingham County in Illinois to have sex with a person under the age of 18.   The incident took place on June 24th and 25th.   A trial date has not yet been set.

Maphis faces felony charges in Madison County for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of a child, and being in possession of a stolen car.   Maphis was charged on June 27th after Maryville, IL police found him at a local hotel with a runaway teenage female juvenile from Ohio.   Maphis is schedule to appear in Madison County Circuit court on July 31st.
