Winter has returned to the quad-state region. Temperatures remained in the single digits across the region Monday morning. While high temperatures are expected to reach about 20, the wind chill remains an issue. Wind chill readings of between -1 and -10 are likely across the region on Monday. The National Weather Service says frostbite can set in within 30-minutes when skin is exposed to a wind chill of up to -17.
State Climatologist Jim Angel says so far this month the temperature in Illinois is six degrees below average. Angel says snowfall over most of the state is also below average. That could change this week. The National Weather Services says a developing winter weather system could bring snow and possibly ice to the region Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. While the forecast model is still taking shape, the National Weather Service says some areas within the region could see up to 2 to 4 inches of snow by Wednesday morning.
