Cleanup Continues From Heavy Rain, Tornadoes

Some southern Illinoisans are still cleaning up after the weekend's wet - and in some cases severe - weather.
The National Weather Service says the remnants of Tropical Storm Bill brought record rain totals to the region - topping three and a half inches in several areas.

NWS teams fanned out across southern Illinois Saturday to gauge the damage done, and found five tornadoes touched down - in Murphysboro, West Frankfort, near Goreville, Macedonia and Norris City.

While the tornadoes were rated as "weak" - EF-1 or EF-0, there was structural damage in Franklin County and limbs were blown down in other areas.

The remaining concern is flooding. The NWS says local rivers, streams, and lakes are all swollen - and many are at or above flood stage. The crest for some will come early in the week, others will have to wait a few more days for the water to start going down.
