Communities all over Illinois are looking back today, remembering the series of tornadoes that claimed lives and property one year ago.
In Brookport, American Red Cross Coordinator Dave Mackenzie says there are lingering scars that can take time to heal.
"We still have Red Cross volunteers that are there, that can help with the mental health issues that families may be experiencing as a result, and at the completion of the recovery."
In Gifford, in Central Illinois, Champaign County EMA Spokesman Rick Atterberry says financial challenges remain, as property damage means lower taxes for local governments, and in Washington, near Peoria, leaders there say they're struggling as businesses damaged in the storm are also reporting lower revenues.
