Winter Weather Headed Toward The Region

Be careful in traffic as a winter storm hits the area.

The region can expect to see some wintery weather tonight and early tomorrow morning. The National Weather Service is predicting a mix of freezing rain, sleet and possibly snow.

The St. Louis area will see the worst of the storm, with conditions improving as you go east, said National Weather Service Paducah meteorologist Chris Noles.

"The heaviest activity should be up toward the St. Louis metro area and back down I-44 and then as you head southeast towards say, Sparta, up to Salem and then back down to Perryville, Missouri, amounts will be much lighter," Noles said.

He added that traffic could be impacted Thursday morning.

"[The] worst travel impacts are a little bit farther to the northwest towards St. Louis and maybe in our region, just looking at mainly a glaze or a light accumulation on elevated surfaces, perhaps bridges and overpasses will be a little slick in the morning, but not a major impact," said Noles.

Those in the Carbondale area, as well as to the south and east will likely see rain rather than wintery mix.
