Record Cold and Early Snowfall Smack Region

Images
National Weather Service

Unseasonably cold temperatures moved into the region Monday night and set all-time records in some towns.

Records were broken in places such as Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Paducah, Kentucky; Evansville, Indiana as well as parts of southern Illinois.
Snowfall amounts ranged from one to three inches across the region. The higher amounts were along the Interstate 64 corridor, east of Mt. Vernon. This was the third earliest snowfall measured in the region, eclipsed only in 1993 and 1996.
