House Passes Leadership Term Limits, Source of Income Protections for Renters

The Illinois House advanced several bills Thursday, including one which would implement term limits on leadership positions in the General Assembly and another that would create additional protections for tenants’ sources of income.

House Bill 642, introduced by Rep. Anthony DeLuca, D-Chicago Heights, would bar any individual from serving more than 10 consecutive years in a leadership position in the General Assembly, including speaker of the House, president of the Senate, and minority leadership positions in each house.

The Illinois legislature is back in town this week and Governor Bruce Rauner is outlining a to do list for lawmakers.

Items on the governor's agenda include passing term limits, pension reform and most importantly...a solid spending plan for the new fiscal year.

A bill has been proposed in the Illinois General Assembly that would put term limits on four legislative positions.

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner used his State of the State Address to call for less spending.  But he was short on details.  

Rauner will be back before the General Assembly in two weeks to lay out his budget ideas.   In this speech, he only hinted at his plan.

 Gov. Bruce Rauner, a Republican, has gotten a lot of traction with his push for term limits. Voters seem to love the idea just as much as legislators hate it, even if the governor's plan doesn't seem all that practical.

Governor Bruce Rauner remains optimistic a balanced budget agreement will come in sooner than later.
