While the state’s stay-at-home order appears to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the lack of foot traffic is hurting businesses.

Despite a number of legal challenges that have yet to be resolved, Governor J.B. Pritzker says Illinois will remain under a stay-at-home order, which takes effect Friday through the end of May.

More and more small business owners across Illinois are pushing to convince Governor J-B Pritzker to re-open parts of the economy in places where there are relatively few COVID-19 cases.

A Clay County judge ruled Monday that Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker has to go to lawmakers to extend his stay at home order. 

Republican Representative Darren Bailey of southern Illinois filed the lawsuit last week challenging Pritzker’s decision to continue the “stay-at-home” order through May.

The republican lawmaker's lawsuit claimed Governor J-B Pritzker did not have the power to keep the state under a stay at home order and disaster proclamation. The suit argued Illinois’ Emergency Management Act only allows Pritzker to use emergency powers for a short time, then the state legislature must step in.

Stay-At-Home Order Modified, Extended into May

Governor J.B. Pritzker announced the state's stay-at-home order will be extended through Saturday, May 30th. 

As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise across the state. 

Some residents in the Central and Southern part of the state are frustrated since some of the "hot spots" are in the northern part of the state.

Groups of Illinoisans are starting to protest Governor J-B Pritzker's ongoing stay at home order as they stress the need to re-open businesses to get the economy re-started.

During Monday's COVID-19 briefing, Pritzker said he is looking at a re-opening the state on a regional basis, since rural parts of the state are reporting fewer cases than urban areas.
