Nearly two-thousand pages of documents from the SIU Board of Trustees show a sharp division between the Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses, particularly when it comes to funding.

The SIU Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting later this week to talk about placing the system's president on leave and appointing an acting president.

The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Hall on the SIU-Edwardsville campus.

Friends of 80-year-old Gene Callahan say the former democratic political adviser and lobbyist for Major League Baseball died of a heart attack. According to the Quad City Times, Callahan attended a fundraiser Sunday for his daugher Cheri Bustos, who is seeking re-election in Illinois' 17th Congressional District.


The Provost of Southern Illinois University Carbondale has been reassigned.

 In an e-mail communication Tuesday afternoon to the university community, Interim SIU-C Chancellor Paul Sarvela says John Nicklow has assumed administrative duties within the College of Engineering.  Sarvela says Nicklow will also teach and conduct research.  Nicklow was the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering prior to becoming interim Assistant Provost four years ago under former Chancellor Rita Cheng.
