A teenager fell about 20 feet from a cliff at the Little Grand Canyon Hiking Trail in the Shawnee National Forest.

17 firefighters from U.S. Forest Service units in Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Oregon are in southern Illinois to help their counterparts from the Shawnee National Forest battle a wildfire in the Fountain Bluff area of the Shawnee.

The Shawnee National Forest is reopening two popular recreation areas today (Friday).

On its Facebook page, the Forest announced Garden of the Gods and Bell Smith Springs will be open to the public, as long as people practice social distancing guidelines

A stand of trees in the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri looks a little more sparse than what is often depicted in a forest.

Garden Of The Gods will soon be on quarters

Since 2010 the United States Mint began issuing quarters featuring a variety of depictions of natural areas on the reverse side of the quarters.  In the Spring of 2016, five more quarters will be released to the general public and one of these new quarters features the Camel Rock formation in the Garden of The Gods Recreation Area.  Sue Hirsch, with the Shawnee National Forest talks about the news.
