It was a very happy scene Tuesday afternoon, just outside Carbondale Memorial Hospital, as family and friends of, formerly missing, seven year old Patrice Dotson was released from the hospital.

A Kansas man has been indicted on charges that he fired the shots that wounded a southern Illinois police officer during a chase two years ago.

A Jackson County grand jury returned the indictment Thursday against 24-year-old Alex B. Karcher of Salina, Kansas, on felony charges of aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Karcher is charged with firing several shots at Carbondale Officer Trey Harris. Officials say one shot wounded Harris in the eye, causing him to lose vision.

Sixteen law enforcement agencies across southern Illinois trained Tuesday at John A. Logan College on a federal program called Stop the Bleed.

It's designed to train officers how to handle life-threatening situations where a tourniquet is needed, such as mass shootings, traffic crashes or drug overdoses. Each agency also received bleeding control kits.

Numerous crashes shut down portions of Interstates 57 and 24 Sunday -- leaving four people dead and several injured.

Nearly 200 concerned Carbondale residents voice their safety concerns in the city and offered solutions on Thursday, April 21st at the Carbondale Civic Center.  WSIU was there.

The Carbondale Police Department received a report of a runaway/missing person complaint from the 300 block of West Mill Street.

Jackson County authorities say a missing teenager has been found safe and sound.

The Sheriff's department says 15-year old Taylor Greenrod of DeSoto was found around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities have identified the two 18-year-old victims in a fatal crash along Route 13 in Carbondale Saturday night.

Police have recaptured an escapee from a southern Illinois jail.

Forty-three-year-old James Earl Bailey escaped Elkville police custody Thursday night. A resident along Chamness Road spotted him Friday afternoon.

Authorities are investigating after a woman initially reported missing was found dead Monday afternoon.

Six students at Southern Illinois University have been arrested in connection with two reported sexual assaults on the school's Carbondale campus last weekend.

Federal prosecutors charged 29-year-old James Watts of Cairo Friday with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The U.S. attorney says Watts was arrested Thursday on a railroad trestle in Cairo hours after a First National Bank branch in that city was robbed. Authorities say two bank employees were killed and a third employee was critically injured.
