July 4

President Donald Trump will preside over a patriotic event with military flair — branded the “Salute to America” — for the Fourth of July. But some have raised concern about the cost for taxpayers, as well as that the event could politicize a nonpartisan day meant to be about American unity.

The village that became Illinois' first capitol will use July 4th to celebrate the Declaration of Independence and the community's capture from British forces during the American Revolution.

The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency says Kaskaskia will mark the day with a rifle volley by historic interpreters, lunch and other events.
