Illinois was granted an extension by FEMA for submitting a major disaster declaration due to the amount of damage that’s still unknown.

The 2019 flood in southern Illinois is going to be a costly one.

In Jackson County alone, preliminary flood damage reports turned into the Illinois Emergency Management Agency total just over $7 million.

Stealing a vehicle has landed an Anna man in prison.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 28-year-old Brandon Leek was sentenced to four and-a-half years behind bars. He pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.

A Murphysboro man has received a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to an indictment charging unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The U.S. attorney says 24-year-old Billy Jack Reed admitted to possessing a 9mm pistol even though he was prohibited from possessing a gun because of multiple prior felony convictions.

In Alexander County, a post on Facebook indicates the Mayor of East Cape Girardeau is issuing an evacuation for the East Cape trailer park ONLY.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 24-year-old Jarrell Pullen was found guilty of two counts of First-Degree Murder and four counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, following a three-day bench trial in Jackson County.

A grand jury has returned an indictment charging a Carbondale man with murder.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 24-year-old Judious Kizeart is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of armed robbery, one count of robbery and one count of criminal cannabis conspiracy.

The Jackson County Board may weigh in on gun legislation in the Illinois General Assembly.

The bills in Springfield include restrictions on the gun buying age, increased waiting periods, magazine bans and gun dealer licensing.

A Jackson County Jury returned guilty verdicts on five criminal counts against a Carbondale man.

In less than four weeks thousands, maybe tens of thousands of visitors from all over the earth will be in southern Illinois for the eclipse.  The exact number of visitors is almost impossible to come up with, and many officials say that is challenging when it comes to planning.

Tuesday night, the Jackson County Board shut down a proposed resolution by the Immigrant Rights Project that would welcome immigrants in Southern Illinois.

Jess Jobe is a volunteer with the project and says it was a disappointing evening.

A resolution to make immigrants in Southern Illinois feel welcomed in the community was approved on Tuesday, by the legislative committee of the Jackson County Board.

Voters in Jackson County will be asked next week whether they support a sales tax increase to help fund public schools.

A Carbondale man is headed to prison after violating his probation.

Jackson County State's Attorney Mike Carr says 25-year-old Kenneth Ragans has been sentenced to three years for aggravated battery and three years for unlawful restraint. Both sentences will be served concurrently.

Police Recapture Escaped Jail Inmate

Police have recaptured an escapee from a southern Illinois jail.

Forty-three-year-old James Earl Bailey escaped Elkville police custody Thursday night. A resident along Chamness Road spotted him Friday afternoon.

Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire at a vacant residence in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says the Carbondale Township Fire Department responded to a structure fire at around 3:30 Thursday morning on Charles Road.
