Celebrating the Holidays during COVID-19

On this edition of WSIU InFocus, we speak with local residents who are involved in Christmas displays and hear of the challenges in doing so during this very challenging time.

We will also hear from a mental health professional about coping with loss during the holiday season.

Middle schoolers from Loves Park were chosen to create the ornament representing Illinois for the National Christmas Tree Celebration in Washington D.C.

The two dozen Harlem Middle School art students worked on 24 ornaments for more than a month in secret. The National Parks Service didn’t let the kids say anything about their project until the official announcement.

And you may hear one that features a little boy asking Santa to replace his two central incisors, after losing them in a slide down the banister. The vocalist that made that song famous was George Rock, a trumpeter hailing from the central Illinois town of Farmer City.

Another holiday gift-giving season is upon us.

In this edition of Reading Baseball, Pete Peterson tells us about a book that could be perfect for a baseball fan on your shopping list.

In several weeks the University of Illinois Extension Service is offering a free public workshop on coping with stress which can accompany this time of year.

Extension Educators Susan Sloop and Alicia Kallal will lead the program on Tuesday December 12th at the Marion Carnegie Library.
