The Mayor of Carbondale, Mike Henry, was the featured speaker recently  at the regular Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Monthly Luncheon.  He highlighted the positives as the city moves forward, while stressing the uncertainty of the financial picture as the City gets ready for the 2019 Fiscal Year which starts on May 1st 2019.

The City of Carbondale is giving the gift of free parking this holiday season.

Beginning Monday, December 10, visitors will be able to park at no cost for up to two hours in several locations. You can see the list of free parking lots here.

At Carbondale's City Council meeting Monday night, the council voted to deny the solar company Brightfield a special-use permit that would allow the company to build on the former Kopper's Tie Plant site.

The meeting was well-attended, and Carbondale's residents voiced their disapproval of the special-use permit to the council. City Council members listened to their consituents, and voted to deny the special use permit 6-1.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 20-year old Joseph Paden and 18-year old Jered McPike are charged with two counts each of armed robbery.

SIU and SIH Break Ground on New Facility

The SIU School of Medicine and Southern Illinois Healthcare came together on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 to break ground on a new clinic and teaching facility in Carbondale. 

The 40,000 square foot building will house medical residents and students in the physician assistant program. It will provide expanded space for teaching and patient care and help provide healthcare to Southern Illinois.  

The number of students who stay to practice in the rural community is much higher than the national average.

The City of Carbondale is asking for the public's help to name and create a logo for an upcoming Halloween event.

The contest is open to all southern Illinois artists and Saluki graduates.

As National Bike Month gets underway in May, the City of Carbondale is expanding its bike network.

For instance, the multi-use path at University Mall will be extended to Reed Station Road and a traffic study is underway to determine if bike lanes could be added between Main Street and Grand Avenue.
