Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is calling on state lawmakers to return to Springfield for a special session in response to Friday's Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v Wade.
In a statement Pritzker says he wants lawmakers to “further enshrine our commitment to reproductive health care rights and protections.”
It's not clear what legislation Pritzker has in mind --- but Illinois law allows for abortion to continue to be legal in Illinois in spite of the SCOTUS ruling.
In a statement, Pritzker also makes clear he intends to make this issue a key part of his re-election campaign this year.
He says reproductive rights is on the ballot in November’s election – since every Republican candidate for governor has expressed anti-abortion rights views.
