Illinois lawmakers approved a $42 billion budget proposal for 2022, but Republicans are not happy that some tax incentives for businesses were cut.
Lawmakers worked past deadline late Monday night into the early hours of Tuesday finalizing Illinois 2022 spending plan.
In the Senate it passed with a 37-21 vote that all Republicans and three Democrats opposed.
Republican State Senator Dale Fowler says he’s disappointed that some tax credits for businesses were cut.
“In total the Democrats' spending proposal removes over 600 million in job creation incentives, we should be supporting our job creators now more than ever, here in Southern Illinois we are on the brink of great economic development opportunities, I want to take this momentum moving forward and keep doing what we can to support our job creators, not eliminate programs geared toward growth and development.”
Fowler says the cuts were unnecessary because of the federal COVID-19 relief money.
