High unemployment is driving more and more families to seek help with putting food on the table. It also means changes for agencies and organizations that help those in need.

The Cambria Food Pantry typically distributes food once a month to more than 100 households from in Williamson County.

Through March and April, that number grew by 30-percent.

Co-manager Gayla Pottorff says they had donations earmarked for COVID-19 relief, but it wasn’t easy to get some things they needed.

“We have the money to purchase it, but sometimes the supplies are not coming in.”

The pantry now operates on a no contact, drive through model. They pre-package the food, and carry it outside to the trunk of the vehicle.

They also eliminated people signing for the food to avoid passing items back and forth.

Pottorff says they’re here to help during these uncertain times.

“We are open, we do still have food we haven’t run out and I really have been surprised we have not had more people that need food.”
