The Eurma Hayes Center is holding a grand re-opening on Saturday, July 9th.
President Bob Wills said it's a critical resource for kids in Carbondale who don't have anything else to do when school is out.
"At any given day, we'll have oh 90 to 100 kids in that building from Monday to Friday. What's going on, we'll have a youth center in there that will be education and recreational, the Park district will have about 40, 50 kids every day with youth programs, same thing we're doing, we're fusing all this together," he said.
Wills said during the two years the center has been closed, they have made significant upgrades including a new heat and air system as well as renovations to the kitchen. He added that the re-opened will include youth activities, special education, a computer lab, a sewing lab and other community resources.
The re-opening will begin with an invitation only ceremony for local dignitaries, followed by a community celebration outside the center. Tours of the center will be available.
