SIU Carbondale leaders say after starting the Spring 2022 semester online, classes will return to in-person next week.
In a message to the campus on Wednesday, Chancellor Austin Lane reported roughly eight-thousand tests of faculty, staff, and students returning from winter break.
Of the results available, roughly six-percent of employees and ten-percent of students tested positive. Those affected are isolating.
Starting Tuesday, SIU Carbondale's classes will return to face-to-face learning. Masks will be required inside all buildings, and those who remain unvaccinated will be required to test regularly.
The university has ordered N-95 masks for distribution, and those are expected next week. In addition, a COVID vaccine clinic is planned for next week at the SIU Student Center.
