SIU is teaming up with the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois to encourage girls to seek STEM careers.
Last month Chancellor Austin Lane made an agreement with the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois to provide mentoring, education and summer camps through the Carbondale campus.
The agreement emphasizes STEM related programs for junior high and high school girls.
Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois CEO Loretta Graham says working with the Carbondale campus will give these girls the ability and support to get a college degree.
“When it comes to rural areas, I want to make sure that these girls have those resources to be the woman that we know that they can become and the woman that America needs them to be.”
The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinoisserves more than 9,000 scouts across 40 counties.
