More details are emerging about the ouster of former SIUC Athletics Director Liz Jarnigan.
The Southern Illinoisan has obtained documents that show a recent hire in SIU's NCAA compliance office ran afoul of the governing body's rules while serving at the University of Akron.
The paper reports Alex Parker resigned from Akron in May of 2020, and was hired by SIU in August of this year. Parker admitted to violating the NCAA's rules by giving loans to student athletes while he was an Associate Athletic Director at the Ohio School.
Parker has been reassigned at SIU - he's now listed as an Associate Director for Special Projects in the athletic department - but he was initially hired to head Carbondale's compliance office.
These details come as SIU's Women's Soccer coach is on administrative leave, and the Women's Swimming and Diving coach is accused of sexual harassment. University leaders say they're investigating all the allegations. SIU Foundation Director Matt Kupec was named interim Athletic Director this week.
