Chancellor Lane signs agreement with Delta Airlines to join Propel Program

Delta Airlines launched a new program at SIU Tuesday that puts students on a fast track to a career as a commercial pilot.

In 2018 Delta Airlines launched their Propel Pilot Career Path Program.

SIU’s School of Aviation is now one of 14 university partners that has joined the program.

Propel Program Manager Kelvin Mason says the program lets pilots acquire the training they need in a short time and a guaranteed job.

“We have an accelerated time frame where we quote 42 months or less from the point they join a regional airline, one of the Delta connections carrier airlines or flying for the US military and Air National Guard or Air Force reserves where they will have a 42-month time frame of building time and experience before eventually joining Delta.”

Pilots must have 1,000 hours of flight time before they fly at Delta.
