SIU President Dan Mahony has his selection for the system's first Vice President for Antiracism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer.
Mahony is recommending Sheila Caldwell for the new position. SIU Trustees will consider the hire at their meeting later this month.
Caldwell is a Chicago native and currently works in a similar position at Wheaton College. She holds degrees from Northern Illinois University, Argosy University and the University of Georgia.
Mahony set this position as a priority hire shortly after he arrived at SIU. He says moving the system in the right direction means putting an emphasis on antiracism, equity, and inclusion.
If approved, Caldwell will likely start work in mid-July.
