On Tuesday, July 14th, NASA's New Horizons Space Probe will pass within 7,000 miles of Pluto, taking high resolution pictures and gathering valuable scientific data. This space explorer was launched in January of 2006 and is currently over three billion miles from Earth and travelling at a speed of 30,000 miles an hour. WSIU radio recently sat down with Bob Baer, a Computer and Electronics Specialist in the Physics Department at SIU-Carbondale to talk about this amazing machine, and what the journey must be like.
