Jackson County Health Department Warns of Data Breach

Logo

Jackson County's health department is alerting some residents of a data breach.

Leaders at the health department say email addresses were inadvertently shared when reminder messages were sent for people to schedule their second COVID vaccine - which violates federal healthcare privacy standards.

The emails were shared between February 15 and March 5, when the breach was discovered. Department staff worked to fix the problem, and those email addresses were not visible in messages going forward.

Leaders say no other private information was shared in the messages - but they're warning anyone who receives an email from an unknown address to be wary of potential scams or fraud.
