Red Cross Needs Help Making Up for Cancelled Blood Drives.

The recent severe weather has hit blood supplies hard, Joe Zydlo with the American Red Cross is urging people to step up and make up the difference.

"We had about 81 blood drives that were cancelled that led to, over two thousand blood donations that we were not able to collect."

<--break->Zydlo says safety for everybody during the pandemic is a top priority.

"Temperature checks for everyone our staff our volunteers also temperature checks for any donors that come in, before they can go into the blood drive area."

The Red Cross strongly encourages people to make appointments by going to Red Cross Blood DOT org.

Zydlo says blood platelets, which are used with trauma victims and cancer patients, only have a shelf life of five days.
