WSIU to Air Live GOP Gubernatorial Debate on Jan 23

WSIU-TV & Radio to Carry Live Debate on Thursday, January 23 at 7pm

Carbondale, Ill. -- WSIU Public Broadcasting, WILL/Illinois Public Media, WTVP Peoria, WUIS Public Radio Springfield, and the League of Women Voters of Illinois will host Illinois Gubernatorial Primary GOP Candidates 2014, a live 90-minute debate between Republican candidates for Governor of Illinois, followed by 30 minutes of analysis by panelists. The debate will be broadcast live from WTVP in Peoria, Ill. on Thursday, January 23 from 7-9pm and will be carried on public media stations statewide, including WSIU-TV and WSIU Radio. WSIU also will feature a link to WTVP's live stream of the debate online at wsiu.org/decision2014.

Republican challengers participating in the debate include State Senator Bill Brady of Bloomington, State Senator Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale, Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford of Chenoa, and businessman Bruce Rauner of Winnetka. The winner of the Republican primary will be invited to a fall general election debate sponsored by Illinois public broadcasters and the League of Women Voters of Illinois.

Panelists are Jak Tichenor of WSIU-TV, Amanda Vinicky of Illinois Public Radio, Jim Meadows of WILL/Illinois Public Media, and Chacour Koop, a student from the Public Affairs Reporting Program at the University of Illinois Springfield and an intern for the Associated Press. WTVP's H. Wayne Wilson will serve as moderator.

Additional TV stations carrying the debate are WTTW Chicago, WYCC Chicago, WEIU Charleston, WQPT Quad Cities, WSEC Springfield, WMEC Macomb, and WQEC Quincy. Other radio stations broadcasting the debate are WCBU-FM Peoria, WUSI-FM Olney, WVSI-FM Mt. Vernon, WIPA-FM Pittsfield, WIUM-FM Macomb, and WVIK-FM Quad Cities.

Public television and radio reach approximately 10-million citizens across the state, free and over-the-air.
