A single vehicle crash in Williamson County Thursday morning ended when the vehicle overturned and landed in a private pond.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Department says the driver was freed from the vehicle after four motorists stopped, entered the pond and were able to remove the driver from underwater.
The driver - a Carterville resident - was taken to a local hospital and then flown to an out of state hospital with critical injuries.
The accident occurred around 7:30 Thursday morning on Hafer Road, which was closed for about 2 hours after the accident.
In addition to the four Good Samaritans, Williamson County Ambulance, Williamson County Fire Protection District, Carterville Fire Department, and Herrin Police Department assisted with call.
