The manager of the Williamson County Regional Airport wants to expand the charter flights offered at the facility.
Airport Manager Doug Kimmel says Allegiant Air has proposed in the past a service that would involve up to 300 people coming and going from destinations like Las Vegas. He says the current terminal can't handle that capacity.
Kimmel says that's one of the reasons why the airport needs a new terminal building. Kimmel says the new facility would be about the same size as the current structure, but better designed to separate boarding and arriving passengers. The new terminal would cost about $10 million. Kimmel says the goal is for half of the funds to come from the Federal Aviation Administration. He says the design for the new building should be drafted by next summer and he hopes to have it built within three years. The existing terminal is about 40 years old. Kimmel says they would like to have the new terminal built within the next three years.
