Williamson Co. Sheriff Warns of Sophisticated Scam

Images

Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick says another phone scam is using what appears to be a legitimate number from his department.
The Sheriff’s Office received two reports Monday afternoon of a caller claiming to be a Deputy with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. He identified himself as “Deputy Delaney” and informed the victims they had missed a court date and attempted to force the intended victims into paying a fine over the telephone.

What makes this scam different is that the caller has left a call-back number of 618-319-7911. If you call this number you hear a computerized message claiming you have reached the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Court Process Division.

Sheriff Vick wants people to know that any legitimate law enforcement agency will not demand immediate payment over the telephone, and that any caller that tries to pressure or convince you to make an immediate payment over the telephone is almost certainly a scam.
