Western Illinois University Enrollment Down

Logo

This fall's enrollment at Western Illinois University is down around 10-percent compared to last fall.

The university says more than 7,600 students are taking classes. The number last fall was around 8,500.
Most of the students are on the Macomb campus, where enrollment is 64-hundred. Another nearly 1,200 students are counted on the Quad Cities campus.

Western says it has fewer new students on its campuses as well...but it's the smallest decline in new student enrollment since the Fall of 2015, which was shortly after the start of the state's two-year budget impasse.

In a news release...Western Acting President Martin Abraham says he's nonetheless disappointed with the size of the decline in new student enrollment.

He says the school must - and will - stop the trend.
