On Sunday, April 14, The Varsity in Carbondale will host the Midwest premiere of Her Mind in Pieces, an anthology produced by Los Angeles filmmaker Dawn Fields.
"It's a collection of nine different stories, all made by female filmmakers, about women with various mental illnesses. So, we cover things like dementia, post-partum depression, Schizophrenia - but it's not a documentary. It's a very entertaining, narrative film. It's got humor, there's some heartbreak in it. It just kind of takes you on this rollercoaster of emotions."
Fields says it also has ties to SIU.
"Two SIU alumni were involved in the production team. They were executive producers on the film. And one of them, Randall Taylor, will be here. The other, Casey Lambert is serving in Afghanistan right now so, he's going to wire in and say hello to everybody. But, both of those guys are from here and they really just wanted us to share this powerful film with the community."
This film will only be shown on Sunday. Show times are: 2:00, 4:30, and 7:00. There is a trailer on the film's website, where discount tickets are available through Friday.
