One of the sticking points of President Biden's COVID-19 rescue plan is the matter of hundreds of billions of dollars to help state and local governments fill their COVID-affected budget holes. US Senator Dick Durbin says he supports the plan and is hoping for more.
"I think the Biden plan of 160 billion dollars is the right thing to do, to help state and local governments. Many Republicans do not see it that way, it's one of the reasons why we haven't come up with a strictly bi-partisan plan. But I support it."
On immigration reform, however, Durbin sounds more hopeful.
"I've reintroduced the dream act with Senator Lindsey Graham as my co-sponsor. I think people will be surprised to learn that I feel positive that we have the right type of dialogue taking place."
The state's senior Senator says he hopes the filibuster does not get in the way with Congress' work in fighting the pandemic and jump-starting the economy.
